Stanford Australia Foundation Scholarship awarded to Hugh de Kretser

Human Rights Law Centre Executive Director Hugh de Kretser recently returned from Stanford University where he participated in the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders. The one week residential program draws on leading research and teaching to equip nonprofit leaders with new skills and learning to extend their impact. Hugh was awarded a Stanford Australia Foundation Scholarship to attend the program and undertake a study tour.

“The Stanford program exceeded my high expectations. The teaching was brilliant. The learning was fast-paced. They packed a lot of high quality, thought-provoking material into a short time on subjects ranging from scaling up excellence, to harnessing collective wisdom to fostering collaboration and more,” said Mr de Kretser.

“It was inspiring to spend the week with 57 other nonprofit leaders from across the globe all working in different ways to make the world a better place.”

After the program, Hugh spent a week meeting with human rights organisations, practitioners and supporters in San Francisco, Washington DC, Baltimore and New York.

“The timing of the Stanford program and study tour was perfect as we are just finalising the Human Rights Law Centre’s new, ambitious 10 year strategic plan to transform the human rights landscape in Australia. I’ve come back energised and keen to apply new learning in leading our work to eliminate inequality and injustice and build a fairer, more compassionate Australia.”

“I highly recommend the Stanford program to any Australian non-profit leaders who are looking to develop their leadership and management skills.”
