Legislative interventions on misinformation and disinformation – what comes next for Australia?

This new report by Reset Australia, summarises a policy roundtable about the need for effective legislative and regulatory interventions on misinformation and disinformation in the context of the proposed Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation Bill (the Bill). The report notes issues with the existing regulatory framework which does not require accountability or transparency from digital platforms on the extent of the problem of misinformation and disinformation on their services, nor is there a requirement for digital platforms to comply with or consider human rights principles in their processes. The report proposes five recommendations to improve the Bill so that it can achieve its admirable ambition.
